Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
In order to effectively pray or make supplications, requests and present our petitions to the Father we must know, really know the Father and just how Hallowed His name is.
Who is the Father? The word "Our" says love and faith says "Father", so when you say "Our Father which art in heaven". What you are saying is I love you with agape love and Father I trust, believe and have faith and confidence in you, the omniscient, omnipotent creator. If you know Jesus as your personal savior the God of the universe then He is your Father.
Do you know the Father? " Hallowed be thy name". In your home you know your husband or wife, their background where they came from what thier life is like,, in the same way we must know who our Fathein heaven is.
Hallowed is not very common word or phrase, but it means to "sanctify or set apart; to praise; to adore." It could be said this way "Father may your name be sanctified". This expression is an intense desire that God's name be recognized set apart and adored.
We can without realizing it, the Lords name can be sanctified or profaned by the way we conduct our daily lives. As we know there were martyrs who sacrificed their life even unto death for the sake of the gospel, which would cause others to glorify God, the Hebrew idiom "to sanctify the name" was often understood to mean to give ones life for his faith. This is a very very powerful truth. Matthew 5:16
As we learn to follow the pattern of prayer set forth by Christ and to set apart, praise and adore the name of God, prayer will no longer be a frustrating desire, but will become a discipline of joy moving us into the Holy place of God.
To hallow our Fathers name, We must understand His character and His will for us as His children, which are revealed in His names.
